A recent hiking adventure close to my current home resulted in some 350 photos being taken of wildlife in the area.
A few of those photos consisted of this brilliant orange, but very nervous butterfly, and had to test out the new 300mm Tamron zoom lens to even get this close to it.
After a bit of research, I’ve discovered this is a Northwestern Fritillary (Speyeria hesperis), and likely of the “Beani” sub species which is found in parkland of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.
Enjoy these photos, and I’ll be sure to post more when I come across this type of butterfly again. Hopefully I can get some really great close up shots!
